Blink and you might miss Anthony Garrett when he steps into the BKFC Squared Circle.
The fast-working Kansas City, KS big man logged the quickest KO in the history of the BKFC heavyweight division with a 16-second stoppage over John Orr in his summertime BKFC debut.
In his short-notice return to action on Saturday, he smashed his own record with a 12-second blitzing of UFC vet Lavar Johnson in the Main Event of BKFC Fight Night: Los Angeles at the sold-out Thunder Studios, LIVE worldwide on The BKFC App.
Garrett is always hunting for the finish, but even he’s surprised at how Saturday’s record-breaking performance played out in Los Angeles.
“I definitely didn’t expect that — not even close,” Garrett says.
“I just did the same thing I did against John; I countered and I threw everything at those guys, and it worked.”
The heavy-handed Garrett has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in the must-see BKFC heavyweight division.
“It’s incredible,” he says when reflecting on his rapid success with the world’s fastest growing combat sports promotion.
“This is like a dream that I haven’t woken up from. I pinch myself every day, but I’m also humble enough to know that my success doesn’t really mean anything yet in the big picture. I still need experience with BKFC, and I need to keep on winning.”
Garrett happily accepted his Saturday matchup as a late-notice replacement on Wednesday of fight week. He’s staying ready for any other opportunities that might arise as BKFC continues to promote more and more events around the globe.
“I’d love to get back in there right away,” he says.
“If BKFC needs me, just call me or shoot me a text. I’ll be there.”
Editor’s note: Anthony would like to give a special thanks to his daughter (Lucy Jo), his girlfriend (Ana Lato), and his parents (Chris and Linda Garrett).
