Ramiro Figueroa improved to 2-0 at BKFC 67, but the win was bittersweet for the fast-rising lightweight.
Figueroa was eager to put on a show for his hometown fans at the sold-out Denver Coliseum in Denver, CO and add another impressive finish to his BKFC highlight reel.
Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be, as his opponent Ishiah Carson didn’t leave his stool to enter the second round of action after a one-sided opening frame.
“I felt like I didn’t even really fight, to be honest,” Figueroa, 22, says in retrospect. “I knew he wasn’t on my level, so I should’ve been more aggressive earlier. I should’ve gone in for the kill right away. That would’ve been better for the fans – and my highlight reel – instead of him just quitting in the corner.
“The whole fight was very anticlimactic.”
Figueroa hopes to cleanse his palate with a quick turnaround in the Squared Circle. If all goes according to his plan, he’ll be 3-0 by the time Santa visits.
Figueroa has covered a lot of ground in his first two BKFC fights, but he has much bigger goals for his sophomore year with the world’s fastest growing combat sports promotion.
“A year from today, I’d like to have the belt around my waist,” he says. “If I don’t have the belt yet at that point, then I at least want to be established as one of the top contenders in the division.”
