Anthony Garrett needed just 16 seconds for his highly anticipated BKFC debut on Friday.
“I was ready to go five rounds,” Garrett says with a laugh after his victory over John Orr at BKFC Fight Night Kansas City at the sold-out Memorial Hall in his hometown of Kansas City, KS.
“My initial plan was to stay long, but if he’s going to jump in the fire to try to test me, I’m going to fire back as hard as I can.”
There’s nothing quite as exciting in combat sports as a fast-rising heavyweight knockout artist. The 6-foot-5, heavy-handed Garrett seems to fit that description – four of his six wins as a professional mixed martial artist have come by KO.
But he’s just rolling with the punches.
“I’d just like to be back in there as quickly as possible,” says Garrett, 34.
“I don’t think I’ve done enough to call anyone out. I’d love to fight whoever they have in store for me. With just a 16-second win, I’ve still got a lot to prove. I clipped him perfectly and knocked him out, sure, but I’ve still got a lot to prove.”
Editor’s note: Anthony would like to give a special thanks to his girlfriend Ana Lato and his daughter, Lucy Jo.
